That Right Ladies & Gentlemen!!!!

The 2018 Whitefish Winter Carnival is now jam packed with even more fun!!! Smokin' Aces Events and Great Northern Brewery are pleased to present Whitefish Winter Carnival Gelande Quaffing at Great Northern Bar & Grill!!! This event is one that should not be missed! Gleande Quaffing brings together the grace of Gleande with the fun of drinking beer! Teams of 4 will go head to head by throwing mugs full of beer down and off a table to a waiting teammate. The teammate must wait for it to slide off the table and catch the mug before it hits the ground. Then they must consume the contents before continuing on the in the round. Teams score points based on catching and consuming the beer mug. Each round will make things harder and harder until we have crowned the first ever Whitefish Winter Carnival Gelande Quaffing Champions!

The rules of the game maintain one simple rule: Teams take turns throwing beers down and off the table to their teammates, whom must catch it before it hits the ground and comsume its contents. The team with the most catches wins. From there each round makes things more and more interesting.

Round One (1 Minute):

Each team member will rotate around the table going from the pitcher postion, in which they are tossing the beer mug down the table, to the quaffer, catching and consuming the beer mug. All four players must participate in the round. Teams will score 1 Point for all beers that are caught on the mug. Teams will score 2 Points for all beer caught by the handle. Judges will make the call on whether or not the team consumed enough of the beer (no spilling) to consider it a scoring toss. The team with the most points after 1 minute wins and moves on.

Round Two (1 Minute):

Each team member will rotate around the table going from the pitcher postion, in which they are tossing the beer mug down the table, to the quaffer, catching and consuming the beer mug. All four players must participate in the round. In this round each quaffer must do a 360 degree spin before catching the beer mug. The quaffer must wait to spin until the pitcher has tossed the mug down the table.

Round Three (1 Minute):

Each team member will rotate around the table going from the pitcher postion, in which they are tossing the beer mug down the table, to the quaffer, catching and consuming the beer mug. All four players must participate in the round. In this round each quaffer must either do a 360 degree spint or catch the mug under one leg.

Championship Round (2 Minutes):

Each team member will rotate around the table going from the pitcher postion, in which they are tossing the beer mug down the table, to the quaffer, catching and consuming the beer mug. All four players must participate in the round. In this round each team must complete three catches before moving on to "Freestyle" scoring. The must first complete a handle catch, then a 360 degre spin catch and finally a catch under one leg. After this, teams will be scored based on creativity and showmanship. Judges will score a team from 1-5 on each catch. The team with the most points after 2 minutes wins and is crownd Whitefish Winter Carnival Gelande Quaffing Champions!

All participants must be over the age of 21. A team may be disqualified if a team member is deemed overtly intoxicated. NO SUBSTITUTIONS ARE ALLOWED!!!! There is a maximum of 16 teams, so get signed up now!!

Cash Prizes will be given to the winners. Cash purse will be determined based on the number of teams signed up.

All event proceeds will go towards helping fund the 2018 Smokin' Aces Tour. The Smokin' Aces Tour gives young skiers and snowboarders across the Northern Rockies competive platform for them to showcase their skills at events closer to home, while maintaining a regional competitive base.#ForTheKids

This smooth and malty Belgian Dubbel meets the full and oaky rum barrel flavor- a match made in heaven.
When introducing these two, we knew the malty sweetness of the belgian dubbel would dance nicely with the spiciness from the rum barrel chips. Fruity esters round this beer out for a full-flavored winter warmer that will leave a lasting first impression.

Happy Firkin Halloween

In addition to judging the Whitefish Costume Contest this Halloween, Great Northern Brewing has another treat up our sleeve.

We will be tapping a Frog Hop Firkin...for all you frog hop lovers out there!

"The base beer is Frog Hop and it was dosed with a blender full of chopped up fresh Mt. Hood hops from my yard.  My inspiration for that was looking at the hops hanging over my deck every day and trying to think of the best way to use them.  My goal was to take Frog Hop up a few levels.   By grinding them up I'm hoping to release all of the lupulin to the beer."

Firkin Friday

Don't forget about Frequent Firkin Fridays!

We will be tapping a Firkin Keg of Bluebird Day IPA with experimental hops XO727. Come after 3p on Friday and give this one a try. You wont be disappointed.

While our brewers were evaluating some freshly arrived hops samples the aromatic qualities of one variety were obvious as soon as they opened the bag. An experimental hop variety known only as X07270 , it is reputed to provide a strong dank and resinous character with spicy, tangerine and black pepper aromas and flavors. It seemed like a perfect choice to try as a alternate dry hop for our Bluebird Day Double IPA.

Firkin Tapping
Jul

4:00 PM16:00

Firkin Tapping

Join us in a new Draught House tradition - the occasional tapping of a firkin keg!

Next on the docket is Falconer's Flight Pale Ale!

Using the base beer as Big Mountain Tea Pale Ale (TPA) - before the bergamot flavoring was added - our brewers dry-hopped with the Falconer's Flight 7-Cs hops blend. This particular blend of hops will give the traditionally cask-conditioned Pale Ale strong fruit and citrus characteristics with layers of spicy and earthy overtones.

Some background on firkins:

Firkin beer is unpasteurized and naturally carbonated and conditioned inside the firkin through the use of active yeast. It is typically served at a slightly warmer temperature than usual to allow for the yeast to stay active and keep the beer carbonated. In terms of size, a firkin is equal to just under 11 gallons...so don't miss out!

Hildegaard's Bitter Pale Ale Release

Hildegaard's Bitter Pale Ale Release

Named after Glacier Hops Ranch founder's great aunt - Hildegaard is the hop farm's hop picker. She works tirelessly during the hop picking season. She was imported from Northern Bavaria several years ago and has been a fixure of the farm since. Coincidentally, the patron Saint of beer is Abbess Hildegaard Von Bingen, a 12th Century "mystic" who described how hops could be used to preserve liquids.

Since 2013, we've teamed up with Glacier Hops Ranch to explore the extent of how we can cultivate Montana hops on a commercial scale. After field testing over 40 varieties, we're finding that commercial production is more than feasible. Northwest Montana-grown hops produce bold and bright aromas that are perfect for brewing. If it couldn't get any better, Glacier Hops has now developed a new process of how we use those hops with thier creation of Hopzoil.

At the peak of ripeness, Glacier Hops Ranch takes freshly harvested hops and within hours, they capture all of the fresh, aromatic oils through a proprietary steam-distillation process. Instead of the traditional dry-hopping brewing method using heat-dried, processed hops in a late batch addition, our brewers infused those freshly captured hop oils right back into the beer with the late addition of Glacier Hop's Hopzoil.

You'll find Hildegaard's Bitter Pale Ale to have a refreshingly complex aromatic flavor profile that you'd normally only get with a seasonal fresh hop beer....but with just a enough of hoppy bitterness that comes from the Chinook Hopzoil. Join us for her release in the Draught House this Friday! From 5 to 10 pm, there will be $3 pints, $8 growler fills, and $2 steins for stein clubbers.
