Retail Marketing and Promotions for the Black Star Draught House and the Great Northern Brewing Company

The Retail Marketing and Promotions Management position is a retail/customer service position as well as a marketing, s ales and promotions position. It encompasses a broad range of operations within the Black Star Draught House and the Great Northern Brewery. All of these operations however interconnect in many ways.

 

Not a Bartending Job

The Retail Marketing and Promotions Manager (hereafter referred to as the RMP Manager) is responsible for managing all aspects of the downstairs retail space in the Black Star Draught House. In the shoulder season, this person is responsible for opening the downstairs retail space and bar. Because the shoulder seasons offer such little retail traffic, the RMP Manager is responsible for manning the downstairs bar and offering assistance to customers in addition to other responsibilities described further in this description. When the high seasons are in full swing, the RMP Manager is responsible for Managing downstairs bar and retail staff via trainings, meetings, memos, and other forms of communication.

 

All-Things Retail

            The RMP Manager is responsible for tracking merchandise and apparel inventory within the Point of Sale system and on the Brewery’s web store. Based on those inventory levels, the RMP Manager is communicate with Senior Management and coordinate all merchandise and apparel ordering from their perspective suppliers. The RMP Manager is also responsible for managing, promoting and generating online sales. Many of the online sales systems are already in place. Learning these systems and improving upon these existing systems is necessary. The packaging and shipping of online orders goes along with

            It is common for people to call with questions regarding kegs-to-go. The ability to answer questions regarding size and availability is necessary. Coordinating these orders with the brewers and other retail staff is necessary.

 

Promotion and Marketing

            The RMP Manager is responsible for communicating with Senior Management to develop marketing strategies that enhance traffic at the Black Star Draught House. This may include cooperation with hotels, the Convention and Visitors Bureau, the Chamber of Commerce. Soliciting other business to business opportunities is necessary.

            Similarly, sponsorship solicitations are very common here at the brewery. The RMP Manager is responsible for coordinating with Senior Management to determine which sponsorship opportunities are consistent with the brewery’s short and long-term goals.

            As sponsorships and special events for the Brewery and the Draught House are coordinated, the RMP Manager is responsible for coordinating with Senior Management and other managers to ensure that all logistics are secured. These logistics may include the filing of paperwork for permits, etc.

 

Qualifications

 

The RMP Manager must demonstrate the following qualities:

·        Excellent interpersonal skills

·        Excellent communication skills

·        Excellent computer skills including:

o       Microsoft Excel

o       Microsoft Outlook

o       Microsoft Word

o       Adobe Acrobat

o       >45 words per minute typing

o       All internet browsers

o       Moderate knowledge of Facebook

o       High level of cognitive computer skills

·        The ability to think outside the box

·        A familiarity of the people and places of the Flathead Valley

Introductory Cellar Person / Brew Floor Maintenance and Cleaning

7:00pm – 10pm (6 hours per week)

 

The Brew Floor Maintenance and Cleaning position is designed as an introductory cellar position at the Great Northern Brewery. The right candidate must have an interest in brewing operations and would like an opportunity to “get their feet wet” in the operations of the brewing industry. Introductory duties included evening cleaning and organization of the brew floor. Specific duties will be instructed on a weekly basis by the Head Brewer and the General Manager.

 

After a 90 day introductory period, the right candidate may receive instruction on brew floor operations such as kegging, packaging, tank cleaning and other cellar operations. This increase of responsibilities will offer an increase in weekly hours.

 

The right candidate for the Introductory Cellar Person/ Brew Floor Maintenance and Cleaning position must demonstrate the following qualities:

 

·        Honesty

·        Self starting

·        A desire to learn more about the brewing industry

·        Personal responsibility

·        Reliability

·        Interpersonal communication skills

 

The right candidate must demonstrate that they an inherently neat and orderly person. This position relies on ones ability to demand a clean and organized brew floor. A peripheral view of ones environment is necessary. It is this clean and organized environment that allows the brewers to function more efficiently.

 

Specific weekly duties will include:

 

·        Sweeping, scrubbing and rinsing brewery floor.

·        Maintaining various pieces of furniture, fixtures and equipment

·        Replacing palleted materials to their proper racks

·        Organizing packaging materials

·        Clearing cluttered surfaces

·        Stocking refrigerators

·        Organizing outgoing orders

·        Cleaning windows and other surfaces

·        Emptying trash bins
