Great Northern Brewing Co. Packaging Assistant Job Description

Position Description: The Packaging Assistant will play an active role in bottling operations and packaging. 

 Hours: Full-time, hourly rate $10.00 an hour.

 Specific Responsibilities of the Job:

  • The candidate must understand and execute standard operating procedures for sanitation prior to and directly after operations for both keg- and bottle-packaging runs.

  • The candidate will be expected to assist with loading glass for bottling operations, pack boxes, and palletize product.

  • The candidate will participate in packaging preparation.

  • The candidate will be expected to learn machine set up, tear down, as well as clean up.

  • The candidate will participate in moving palletized product to and from off-site facilities. 

  • The candidate will participate in ensuring that inventory documentation is correctly filled out and submitted. This would include packing slips for product received, empty kegs that are returned from distributors, and customer orders leaving the premises.

Work Environment:

While performing the duties of this job, the candidate is routinely exposed to mildly toxic chemicals, moving vehicles, and moving mechanical parts. The noise level in the work environment ranges from quiet to moderately loud.  The candidate will be required to stand for several hours at a time with a lot of walking and twisting of the upper body.  The candidate would be expected to reach, grasp, bend, kneel, squat, climb, and manipulate objects by way of hand/wrist work frequently.  He or she would be expected to push and/or pull palletized product with a pallet jack that weigh up to 2700 lbs and be capable of lifting objects that weigh up to 50 lbs frequently as well as the ability to move objects by rolling, sliding, tilting, or dead lifting a few inches off the ground that weigh up to 180 lbs occasionally.

Job Requirements:

  • An understanding of basic inventory accounting processes (FIFO). 

  • Ability to operate a forklift safely around equipment and other employees.

  • Demonstrated ability to follow safety protocols while working with machinery and toxic chemicals.

  • Demonstrates punctuality.


This is an entry level position.  The purpose of this position is to play a key role on the bottling operations team.  The Packaging Assistant will be exposed to all aspects of the packaging process and will assist primarily on the bottling line.  The position is part time, but there is the potential to work up to 40 hours a week.  Hours will begin at 9:30 am and will continue until the production run is complete.  Production runs will typically be Monday through Friday with weekends off.  Additional days off during the week may present itself but will be dependent upon production requirements.
